7th European Bioremediation Conference (EBC-VII)

25 June, 2018 - 28 June, 2018

The European Bioremediation Conferences started in 2001 organized by TU-Crete. Since then, six conferences managed to bring together scientists and engineers from all over the world to present their findings and exchange information on recent advances in environmental remediation technologies, especially focusing on bioremediation and phytoremediation of contaminated sites including the marine environment. At the last conference (2015) more than 340 abstracts were submitted from 50 countries worldwide.

The International Society for Environmental Biotechnology (ISEB) is an interdisciplinary society of scientists and engineers who have as basic objective the development and promotion of environmental biotechnology worldwide as the way to address environmental problems from a wide perspective. Since its beginning in 1992, ISEB has organized 10 conferences with delegates from more than 30 different countries. The last conference (2016) was successfully organized by Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona, Spain.

This year,  the conference topics have been expanded to include new challenges, future trends, directions and most recent technological innovations for management and restoration of a wide range of contaminated sites and marine environments as well as on resource preservation through recycling and bio-based reclamation, towards to a circular economy model implementation.

Participants: Sadjad Mohammadian (UNI-DUE), Tiziana Tosco & Carlo Bianco (Polito), Andreas Fritzsche (FSU)

  1. Sadjad Mohammadian (Universität Duisburg-Essen) will present the project and consortium. In his presentation, we present the idea and activities of REGULATION in the last three years, and briefly reports on results and dissemination.
  2. Andreas Fritzsche (Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Uni Jena)) Title: “Aging of humic acid-coated goethite colloids and the effect on their ecotoxicity and affinity for metal(loid) adsorption”. The talk will present the findings of the REGROUND consortium on the expected long-term performance of ReGround-particles under in situ conditions.
  3. Carlo Bianco (Politecnico Torino) Title:  “A novel approach to control the deposition and fate of particles in porous media for an effective aquifer nanoremediation”. This talk will present an innovative approach developed within REGROUND to control the spatial distribution of nanoparticles in porous media and optimize nanoremediation.
  4. Tiziana Tosco (Politecnico Torino) Title: “A model assisted procedure to support the design of field scale nanoremediation of metal contaminated aquifers”. The talk will discuss the modelling approach used within the Reground project to support the design of field scale injection of the REGROUND.
