The Objective of WP1 is to provide the scientific and administrative project management for REGROUND. By providing this management, WP1 ensures a successful accomplishment. This WP will be led by UDE.
WP2 carries a central part of REGROUND: the allocation of reliable, safe, and cost-effective iron oxide nanoparticles. This WP will be led by UDE.
The main objectives of WP3 are:
- The development of a transport model for iron oxide particles in porous media based on laboratory experiments, able to simulate the evolution in space and time of nanoparticles concentration and pressure build-up
- The model based optimization of the injection strategy in order to increase the radius of influence, reduce the injection pressure and minimize emplacement costs
- The development of a geochemical model based on laboratory experiments, able to simulate the reactivity and long-term effects of iron oxide particles to scavenge trace element contamination
This WP is led by POLITO.
WP4: EIA – Environmental Impact Assessment
The general goal of WP4 is to assess the potential environmental and health impacts under normal and accidental conditions of the new REGROUND in situ groundwater treatment technology. Injecting iron oxide nanoparticles into groundwater and soil, albeit being a naturally occurring material, might cause concern at water and regulatory authorities, site owners or nearby residents. This WP will be led by LEITAT.
The main goal of WP5 is demonstrating the capabilities and efficiency of the REGROUND technology under real scale conditions in two different contaminated sites, with the aim of a full and complete remediation. The pilot projects will be market-like case studies for further commercialization. This WP will be led by GEOPLANO.
WP6 will take care of dissemination and communication activities, as well as exploitation and commercialization of the resulting technology. This WP will be led by KIM.
